A new wave of transformation is sweeping across Yobe State as Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s grassroots renewal agenda redefines governance and community leadership; what was once routine administration has become a people-driven movement for development and unity across all 17 LGAs.
Under Governor Buni’s direction, local government chairmen have evolved into agents of change, working closely with traditional rulers who have regained their place as pillars of justice, peace, and moral authority. This partnership has restored confidence in governance and strengthened social harmony across the state’s 178 wards.
Through the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, local councils have been repositioned to deliver tangible results. As in Fune and Nangere, new roads now connect farmers to markets, boosting local trade.
Also in Gulani and Tarmuwa, upgraded health centers are improving access to medical care, while empowerment programs in Potiskum and Geidam are creating jobs for youth and women, and boreholes in Jakusko, Machina, and Karasuwa now provide clean water for rural families.
“Governor Buni’s leadership has shown that real development begins from the grassroots,” said a senior ministry official. “By empowering local councils and restoring the authority of traditional rulers, he has built a partnership that delivers peace and progress.”
For many citizens, the difference is clear. Malam Audu, a farmer in Fika, said, “Before, we were cut off. Now we sell our grains in town and feed our families with pride.” Fatima, a tailor from Tarmuwa, added, “With government support, I started my business; I can care for my children and live with dignity.”
Traditional rulers now play key roles in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and community mobilization, reinforcing the moral and cultural foundations of governance.
Today, Yobe’s 17 LGAs stand as hubs of service and progress — where chairmen lead with purpose, Emirs guide with wisdom, and citizens feel the presence of government in their daily lives.
Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s grassroots awakening has become more than a policy — it is a living legacy of justice, peace, and renewal built from the ground up.
