In another bold step towards expanding infrastructure and deepening rural development, Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, has launched the construction of a 7-kilometer road linking Potiskum to Degubi, signaling renewed progress and hope for the people of Degubi and surrounding communities in Yobe State.
The State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Wakil, who disclosed this while inspecting the project site, said the construction represents a major milestone under Governor Buni’s rural transformation drive aimed at connecting communities and boosting the local economy.
According to him, residents of Degubi and adjoining villages have for many years endured severe challenges accessing markets and essential services, particularly during the rainy season when roads become impassable.
“Governor Mai Mala Buni’s vision is clear—to build a Yobe where no community is left behind. The Potiskum–Degubi road is more than a transport link; it’s a lifeline that will ease movement, promote trade, and strengthen rural livelihoods,” Engr. Wakil emphasized.
He assured that the Ministry of Works would monitor every stage of the project to ensure quality delivery, durability, and adherence to specifications, stressing that the road will stand the test of time and serve generations to come.
Engr. Wakil commended Governor Buni’s leadership and foresight, describing him as a leader who “matches words with action” in delivering projects that directly impact the lives of citizens. He highlighted that similar development efforts are ongoing across Yobe in sectors such as education, healthcare, water supply, and housing, all reflecting the administration’s people-centered approach.
The Commissioner further called on residents of Degubi and surrounding areas to rally behind the government, support the contractors, and protect public infrastructure being provided for the common good.
“When we protect government projects, we protect our future,” he concluded.
The Potiskum–Degubi road project is expected to stimulate economic growth, reduce transportation costs, and attract new investments to the region, solidifying Governor Buni’s commitment to building a prosperous and inclusive Yobe State.
