The Mai Mala Buni administration has announced plans to commence the construction of 178 modern and fully functional primary schools across the 178 political wards of Yobe State in 2026, marking a major step toward strengthening access to quality basic education at the grassroots.
The ward-by-ward school construction initiative is designed to ensure equitable distribution of educational infrastructure, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach communities. Under the plan, each ward will benefit from at least one standard primary school equipped with spacious classrooms, learning materials, staff offices, sanitation facilities, and a safe learning environment tailored to early childhood development.
The project forms a core part of Gov. Buni’s broader education reform policy, which places education at the center of sustainable development and long-term socio-economic stability. By taking schools directly to communities, the administration aims to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children and ease the burden on existing overcrowded schools.
This intervention will promote enrollment, improve literacy levels, and encourage community participation in school management. The 2026 timeline reflects the government’s commitment to structured planning, quality execution, and long-term sustainability.
While education takes center stage in the next phase of governance, the Buni administration has already laid a strong foundation in social services, having completed over 178 functional primary health care facilities across the state, ensuring that every ward has access to basic healthcare.
With the planned construction of 178 primary schools, Gov. Buni is further reinforcing his people-focused governance philosophy—prioritizing investments that directly impact families, empower the next generation, and secure Yobe State’s future through education-driven development.
