The Yobe State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency the Executive Governor Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni FCIA CON COMN, is playing a key role in reducing Yobe State’s debt burden by paying off over __ 39 billion by 2025.
The Debt Management Office (DMO) also confirmed that Yobe State paid off 9.07% of its domestic debt last year, indicating how Governor Buni’s economic reforms are transforming the state’s economy.
Yobe State is currently the top state in terms of domestic and external debt repayment among the 37 states in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The state government has cleared N39 billion out of the N96 billion debt owed in one year, leaving only N57 billion remaining in the state’s debt, stated the Yobe State Head of Debt Management during a meeting of state stakeholders and the House of Representatives held in Damaturu.
The meeting was organized by the Presidential Business Environment Improvement Council (PBEC) to review the achievements of Yobe State in implementing reforms in the business sector and the national economy.
The governor has put in place policies that have had a positive impact on the state’s economy despite the tax cuts and the relaxation of tax rates for businesses in the state, which is unprecedented given that most states rely on tax revenue by imposing a tax on all businesses in their state.
Reducing the debt burden and paying off the state's debts demonstrate Governor Buni's full commitment to ensuring economic stability.
