Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, has launched the year 2026 with a targeted humanitarian intervention, providing food support to 2,000 informal workers and vulnerable residents across the state.
The initiative, which focuses on Keke Napep operators, GSM phone repairers, and low-income earners, underscores the administration’s commitment to easing economic pressures and strengthening household food security.
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, said the New Year distribution was designed to offer immediate relief to hardworking citizens while reinforcing the government’s people-centered policies.
He explained that the exercise began on Thursday, January 1, 2026, with each beneficiary receiving a bag of rice, assorted grains, and a carton of spaghetti to support their families at the start of the year.
According to Dr. Goje, beneficiaries were nominated through recognized trade and transport associations, ensuring transparency, equity, and effective delivery.
He noted that the program represents the first humanitarian outreach of 2026 and forms part of a broader social intervention plan expected to benefit more than 50,000 households across all local government areas of Yobe State.
Dr. Goje urged beneficiaries to uphold peace, obey the law, and cooperate with security agencies in sustaining the stability recorded in the state.
The intervention reflects Gov. Buni’s unwavering focus on social welfare and inclusive governance, setting a strong tone for 2026 as Yobe State moves forward with confidence, compassion, and sustainable progress.
