Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, senator representing Yobe South Senatorial District, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a modern drainage in Ngelzarma in the Fune local government area of Yobe State.
Ngelzarma is a town that has been plagued by severe flooding for years, which has become a threat to the residents, farmers, and traders, as every year the floods wreak havoc on them, causing loss of habitat, property, and even the lives of the residents.
The senator’s initiative will provide lasting solutions and benefits to improve agriculture, livestock, and trade, as it will remove the doubts or worries in the hearts of the residents of the area, provide them with benefits, and prevent floods that have plagued the residents of the area for a long time.
Mal. Umaru Ngelzarma A resident of Ngelzarman town testified that they have lived in fear of floods that have destroyed thousands of people’s properties and lives in Ngelzarman town for over 30 years, which has caused a serious setback to the development of Ngelzarman town.
“We have lived in fear of floods for over 30 years, which has caused us serious setbacks in the socio-economic and development aspects of Ngelzarma town, which is the second oldest and largest town in Fune Local Government Area.
"Providing us with a solution to the serious threat of floods that have destroyed thousands of people’s properties and lives and prevented any development that could help in the development of the town is like saving the lives of our people.
"The modernization of the water canals or drainage that can provide a lasting solution to our people is a matter of pride and will have a significant impact on the economy of Yobe State, not just Ngelzarma or Fune, because the dam or reservoir will have a significant impact on the improvement of dry season farming, which will also create jobs for the various communities in Yobe State."
