They say a boy’s first hero is his father, but what happens when the hero is just a ghost in the hallway?
Or a memory that only visits when the rent is due?
Many grew up in houses where the walls were thick but the presence was thin,
Looking at a Father Figure and trying to Figure It Out on your own.
You see, a lot were raised by men who thought providing was the same as being present,
So they gave you Presents but forgot the Presence that actually builds a man.
They were so busy chasing the bag that they left children holding an empty sack of emotions.
I look at those brothers today and I see the math not adding up.
How do you calculate love when the primary number was always missing?
Now we have a generation of architects trying to build homes with blueprints we never saw.
You’re trying to be a Real Man, but the only Reel you know is the one on Instagram.
You want to lead a home, but your own heart is a Tenant that hasn’t paid rent to God in years.
We carry wounds and call them "hustle,"
We carry silence and call it "strength,"
But òti pô jú, the weight is becoming a disfigurement.
Let’s be honest, you cannot Give what you never Received.
You’re angry at a man for not teaching you how to walk, yet you’re running away from the only One who can carry you.
We say “Bàbá mi n’be nínú òrun,” Our Father who art in heaven,
But we treat Him like our earthly fathers, someone we only talk to when we need a favor.
We want the Blessing but we dodge the Blessing of his correction.
You are so afraid of becoming like your father that you’ve forgotten how to become a son to the Creator.
