Edirin, the African Change-Agent

A brutal war had been declared on women of that era
A girl’s place was on her knees
Defiance of any form, often viewed as rebellion
To be quashed as one would a gnat
Consequences be damned!

No one expected the shock of awareness
The birth of change stared them in the face
With hands tied, they watched as like a whirlwind
Edirin, slaughtered the rules and regs
Shackles that had kept women in chains
And subjugated to a blind master

She gathered the carcass, pointing a sign
For more to follow
Little wonder while soon after
A small wave of opposition reared up
The masters in reluctance – the slaves must stay!

Edirin, her voice a weapon
Her speech a thunderstorm
Won the day in a feat beyond mere mortal
And rode history as the first woman
Who caught change by his beard
Taking out the debris
For a clear path to be paved.
