ECHOES OF INNOCENCE

We ran through dust, the earth beneath,
The sun above, our only wreath.
Barefoot whispers in the breeze,
Our laughter swelling through the trees,
A symphony of joy and faith beneath.
When rains poured down from skies of grey,
We danced as if they'd wash away
The world's sharp edges, pain unknown,
For in those puddles, seeds were sown
Of innocence too pure to stray.
Beneath the moon’s soft silver light,
We counted stars through endless night.
With every wish, a dream would rise,
But time slipped by, unseen in skies,
And childhood faded out of sight.
In hide and seek, our hearts would race,
A game of shadows, love, and grace.
The baobabs, our keepers still,
Held our secrets, quiet, until
They grew with us in that sweet place.
Now distant winds pull us apart,
Yet Africa still claims my heart.
The scent of rain, the rustling leaves,
The land, a home my soul believes,
A place where innocence won’t part.
