“This Thing Called Life" Series— Episode Twenty Three
💊💊💊
Sometimes the people that clap for you publicly are fighting you privately inside their heart. I'm not talking of spiritual or physical fight oo. Human beings are complicated like that.
I was thinking about it one evening while watching two women argue beside a tomato seller. The argument started from something very small. One woman mistakenly stepped on the other person’s nylon bag and before you knew it, old wounds started entering the conversation.
“You think you are the only one progressing.”
“Since your husband travelled, you have changed.”
“Please free me.”
What amazed me was not even the argument. It was the speed at which hidden bitterness surfaced. One minute they were smiling neighbours. The next minute, five years of secret irritation was speaking fluent English.
I realized that hatred does not come wearing black cloth and red eyes. Sometimes it comes smiling. Sometimes it even says “God bless you” while secretly struggling with your existence.
And the scary part is this. Many people do not even know they are battling envy. They just think they are being “honest.” I have seen people reduce another person’s success just to help themselves breathe better.
Someone buys a car. “It is loan.”
Someone gets married. “Let us see after one year.”
Someone gets opportunity. “Wo jare, nah by connection.”
Some people cannot simply celebrate anything without adding pepper to it. Pure congratulations is too difficult for them. And if we are honest, this thing enters every space. Workplaces. Friendships. Families. Even spiritual environments.
I'll tell you a story that honestly humbled me.
To be continued … 🔥
