Democracy Day: Democracy is more than rhetoric in Yobe State—"we see it on the ground"

As we celebrate Democracy Day today, June 12, 2025, we pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to uphold and ensure democracy in Nigeria.
Yobe State, under the leadership of His Excellency the Executive Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni, FCIA, CON, COMN, has achieved a sound democratic system where the democratic process has gone beyond rhetoric to become a lasting reality.
Governor Mai Mala Buni has provided the opportunity to consult and hear the voices of the good people of his state during decision-making, which is indicative of the collective governance known as democracy.
After consulting, Governor Buni formulates policies and decides with his people before implementing any law or order across the state; he governs based on the will of the people.
During his six years as governor of Yobe State, Governor Buni has implemented policies that have strengthened the engagement with the good people of the state, which has further strengthened democracy and increased its popularity, and has inspired the people of the state to embrace democracy.
The governor has opened the door to the government for the youth, including the appointment of youth to senior positions such as commissioners, advisers, SAs, TAs, STAs, SSAs, and focal persons. The community has benefited from the democratic process of joining the government during his six years as governor of Yobe State.
The governor has also facilitated the use of the government’s system in terms of support and security development while strengthening the state in terms of trade, industry, agriculture, livestock, and other means of economic development.
Governor Buni has certainly fulfilled his promise to create a new Yobe state full of pride and economic prosperity while strengthening democracy.
