Africa is one continent blessed with diverse vegetation, climate and people. Talking about deserts in Africa the names that come to mind are the Sahara desert, kalahari desert, Namib desert, Libyan desert and a plethora of others.
As it stands, the Sahara desert is the hotest.
As a bonafide Nigerian, we search to see if our country was blessed with deserts and dunes and found none, except for one, the Yusufari Desert.
The Yusufari Desert is believed to be an extension of the Sahara desert which encroached into Yobe State in northeast Nigeria.
The Yusufari Desert is also known as "The Desert Land of Hope". Statistically, between 1984 and 2021, vegetation in the area shrank by 91.7% and water resources declined by 71.9% marking it as one significantly evolving desert in Nigeria.
The slowly evolving desert is blessed with an oasis, located in the Bulatura swampy valley. It's indeed a beautiful sight cos many feel that area mirrors Dubai, UAE.
Love to check out the Yusufari Desert in Nigeria, do well to Visit Yobe State and get a guide to walk you there.
