Yobe Embraces Structural Reforms, Modernization, Efficiency, and Enhancement as It Celebrates 34 Years of Its Formation under Gov. Buni
Today, Yobe State celebrates thirty-four (34) years of its formation. After being separated from the former Borno State on the 27th, August, 1991, the state is undergoing the most significant transformation and modernization since its formation under the leadership of Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni FCIA, CON, COMN.
The state began its own leadership on 28th August, 1991, under its first governor, Late Sani Daura Ahmed, who ruled the state for a good year under the military rule until 2nd January, 1992, when he handed over power to a civilian government of the late Sen. Alh. Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who ruled the state under the SDP political party from 2nd January, 1992, to 17th November, 1993.
The state returned to military rule following the 1993 coup, with Late Dabo Aliyu taking over the state from 9th December, 1993, to 22nd August, 1996, before later the state was passed over to John Ben Kalio from 22nd August, 1996, to 14th August, 1998, before finally Late Musa Muhammad ruled the state for 9 months before the start of democratic rule in 1999.
Under the democratic rule, Yobe State has had governors with different political policies and leadership who have been influential in the implementation of thousands of development projects, such as Late Alh. Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Sen. Mamman B. Ali, and Sen. Alh. Ibrahim Geidam, to Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni FCIA CON COMN, who is in his second term as the state celebrates its 34th anniversary today.
Yobe State is now set to undergo a transformation and modernization that it has never experienced since its emergence as a fully autonomous state following the pledge of Governor Buni's Agenda Namely___ “Gov. Buni's Yobe Renew and upgrade to a modern face Agenda.”
The state is on the brink of major development projects, including the construction of 178 primary health centers, new modern schools, modern markets, a cargo airport, a trailer park, 178 rural access roads, and the project to reform Damaturu city into a vibrant and attractive one.
Yobe State is getting the largest and most efficient flyover and underpass bridge in Northeast Nigeria, also the first one in Damaturu City, along with the redevelopment of the city’s roads and the remodeling of the city's roundabouts.
Governor Buni is about to create a new Yobe State full of pride as it celebrates its 34th anniversary.
