In a significant political development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adopted the consensus method as the mode for electing its next National Working Committee (NWC) members, signaling a strategic move aimed at strengthening unity within the ruling party.
The motion for the adoption of consensus was moved by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and was seconded by the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani. The development was met with widespread approval among party stakeholders present at the high-level gathering.
The decision reflects the party’s commitment to fostering internal cohesion and avoiding divisive contests, especially at a time when consolidation and strategic alignment remain crucial ahead of future political engagements.
Party insiders describe the consensus approach as a unifying mechanism that promotes inclusiveness, reduces intra-party conflicts, and ensures that capable and widely accepted leaders emerge to steer the affairs of the APC at the national level.
This move could further solidify the APC’s internal structure while enhancing its readiness for upcoming political milestones, including national conventions and general elections.
As the party charts a new course, the adoption of consensus is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping a more stable, disciplined, and forward-looking leadership for Africa’s largest political party.
