You’ll think you’re fearless…
until an actual piece of meat gives you a hot chase.
This experience isn’t one to laugh about, so if I catch you laughing… 😒😒😒
Just know I’m silently reporting you to God. 😒
Mum gave me a simple task:
“Precious, bring the chîckèn from the farm into the pot.”
Me, a whole soldier of Christ? Who was I to say no?
So I sprang into action —
A neat bowl to pick up my culprit,
A sharp knîfe to cut its sins away,
Hot boiling water to wash away its blóòd…
(Wait… this is sounding too much like one of those people who shouted “Crucify Him!” during Jesus’ time. Abeg let me focus.)
Thank God it was an agric chîcken —
not those old, traditional village elders in feathers
that will disgrace your generation and still fly away. 🤦♀️
Blade positioned.
Mission understood.
Courage loaded at 78%.
I started the usual process.
Its head was almost out — three more pushes and we would both be free.
But suddenly… it jerked.
It shook like someone shouted “Holy Ghost fire!” and was under anointing.
And my hand…
My hand lost grip.
Don’t ask me how.
Don’t ask me why.
Precious... Say the truth o.
You lost grip abi you got scared? 😏
And you were busy shouting:
“Daddy! Daddy!
Come and help kîll the chicken!
The headlèss chicken is running!
It’s running!
Come and help me!”
Shhh!
Don’t say that out loud — people are hearing you. 🤦♀️
Don’t mind her. She’s joking.
None of that happened.
I handled the situation like an adult…
with dignity…
with bravery…
with composure…
Precious, you really finished the task well, ba? 😏
Let’s all just agree that the chicken lived a full, dramatic life.
You needed to see me munching on that piece of mèat, after it showed me that
life can be headless chicken —
Shaking, unpredictable, running in no direction.
Making you question your calling, your future, and even your grip on the knife.
But courage isn’t the absence of fear;
It’s the decision to hold your ground…
even if a chicken is chasing you for no reason.
Laugh about your battles.
Learn from your stumbles.
Let your scars teach you, not shame you.
Even when life chases you because you offended it.
So, as we laugh tonight, remember this:
Tomorrow is Sunday.
Go to church.
Reset your spirit.
And let God remind you that even your “headless chicken days” are covered by grace.
