4 signs you learned to survive instead of live

1. You overwork to prove your worth
2. You perform okay when you are falling apart
3. You give until you are empty and call it love
4. You shrink yourself so others feel comfortable

Survival mode was necessary once. It kept you safe when safety was not guaranteed. But you are not in that room anymore. You are not that child anymore. The emergency ended. Your nervous system just forgot to update.

You can stop surviving now. You are allowed to start living.

Ugh the shrink yourself one hit me hard. I still catch myself doing that at work and I'm literally 30 years old lol. It's wild how your body just keeps running the old program even when you know better. Thanks for this though, seriously. Kinda needed the reminder that I'm allowed to take up space now.

Right? The shrink yourself reflex is so deeply wired it doesn't just stop when we grow up. Proud of you for noticing it, that's the first step to choosing differently.

Hey @Martinez Katie, that one hits different for sure. It takes time to unlearn, even at 30. You're not alone in catching yourself doing that.

Number 2 hits close to home. I spent years telling everyone I was fine while barely holding it together. It’s exhausting to realize how much energy that mask takes.

Number 3 is a tough one. I used to think giving until I was empty was just what love required, but it turned out I was just avoiding my own needs.
