Finally got around to checking out some of the new spots popping up around town. It feels like Daytona has been waking up these past few months. Here's what I've found so far.
First, the food scene finally got a shot in the arm. There's a place called **Sabor Cubano** that just opened on **Beville Road**, right near the **Daytona International Speedway** exit. Forget the chain stuff - this is real Cuban coffee and pressed sandwiches. The medianoche there is legit, and the lady running it makes everything from scratch. It's in that little strip mall next to the mattress store. Worth the drive.
Over on **Ridgewood Avenue**, just south of **International Speedway Boulevard**, there's a new coffee shop called **Coastline Brews**. They use local beans from a roaster in New Smyrna. It's small, maybe four tables, but they've got a back patio that looks out towards the river. I sat there last Saturday morning watching the boats go by. Nice break from the usual Starbucks crowd.
For something different, check out **The Bazaar** on **Main Street**. It's a collective with about a dozen local vendors selling vintage clothes, handmade jewelry, and weird art. I picked up a ceramic mug shaped like a sea turtle for my sister. It's right across from the **Main Street Pier** area, but feels way less touristy. They also have a little record corner with old vinyl.
And here's a weird one - a bookstore called **Page & Palette** opened in the **Riverfront Park** area. It's on **Magnolia Avenue**, tucked behind the old building. They do book swaps and have a little reading nook with a view of the water. I walked in on a Thursday night and they were doing a poetry open mic with maybe ten people. Felt like a secret club.
These places are small, so go show some love. Daytona never had much of a local scene outside the beach bars, but it's changing. If you see the owner at Sabor Cubano, tell her the guy with the beagle sent you. She'll know.
