Come, journey with me, to a time far away,
To simplier days, when laughter held sway.
Back when kindness lingered in every face, Friends and kin made the world a warm embrace.

Step into the '90s, under the moon's soft glow,
Where children sat in rows, wonders on show,
At the feet of elders, fairytales would unfold,
Hearts thrilling stories, yet taught lessons bold.

The elders would gather after the day’s toil,
To share fruits from the yard, fresh from the soil.
They’d laugh and reflect on all things deep and light,
And gently scold us if our games went on all night.

Come with me to the 2000s’ when laughter filled the land in endless, bright rays,
Teasing masquerades then run away.
We built grand huts with scraps under the sun,
Tagging and chasing till the day was done.

In the shade, a mother plaiting àdìmọ́lẹ̀,
For her grumpy child with a pout so real— All she wished was to play with sand,
A little explorer in her own homeland.

Now here I stand with ghosts of days long past,
At my childhood home, where memories hold fast.
My cousins and I, dolls made with cardigan and heart filled with dreams,
Would sneak to the river, where the water gleams.

Crickets chirping as we trod along,
The river sang its ancient song.
In rhythms soft and bittersweet.

Oh, Journey back with me, let’s relive the glow,
Of a beautiful time, not so long ago.

This poem took me on a trip the memory lane. A bitttersweet reminder of the simple days. Running everywhere with friends without a burden. The picture attached is a reference to a game we always play when I was younger, it was wonderful to be a kii then.
