The Limping Giant

First it was the white man and then it was the fight to be free,
The giant had been taken down and the captor came with gruesome glee,
Indirect rule and exploitation of the masses—
Filled the giant's belly with the revolt of the classes

Then the captor left and the people turned to war,
Government killing its own people and bombings of the core,
Leaders robbing their own nation and making up their lore,
A mundane show of brutality that was never seen before

Today the giant of Africa has slowed down to a limp,
A new dawn unfolds and the struggle starts anew,
The labours of our heroes past were already tossed away—
And now we gasp in pained delight at the price we'll have to pay.
