MOTHERHOOD POEM
for all mothers and teenage moms
Written by me
It all started at the age of fifteen
she had no idea of what motherhood entails being a teen,
she was devastated,confused
dejected and depressed.
She was being sold to a rich merchant
her bride price has been paid despite her mother's rant,
her mother gave an angry glare to her greedy father
who smiled at her and she felt like a waste water
she knew that very moment that she was doomed.
She wasn't given the chance to enjoy her bloom
she was forced into a teenage marriage
with a man who was at old age.
She was pushed into a truck as they drove to an unknown land
she wasn't given the chance to touch her mother's
hand.
Everything happened so fast,
she had intimacy with her new husband
she had to bear his rules and strict commands
his disgusting and intimidating sight
which causes her to have so much fright
she got pregnant and it shattered her hopes
her husband leaves her all alone thinking she could cope.
The nine months journey wasn't an easy task
the chores were too much,an helping hand was all she could ask,
the songs of the birds was all she could hear
the pains, kicks and movement of the baby was what she had to bear
The quietness and loneliness was driving her crazy
but her husband called her lazy,
then,it happened,her worst nightmare
she had a terrible child birth but her husband called it mere
she was seeing the gates of heaven because she had placenta previa type three
her childbirth was later successful and she felt free.
Unknown to her,the real journey just begun
her teenage life was a by gone
the cries of the baby at night, the changing of diapers and breastfeeding
her wounds haven't healed properly and she suggested weaning
her husband frowned at it and told her the child needs breastmilk.
She loved her child so much and showed her ultimate love,
her baby grew despite the childbirth was rough
she was very happy and was a great mother
she taught her a lot even if she had an absent father
then one day,her child asked her
"mummy how is motherhood for you?"
she said, "it is a bitter-sweet experience
