Flavour of aroma calls out to me like fragrance of incense
from my bed and took me to the very old days.
From my mother's hut she set the wood and fire with love,
laying out these items of magic (beans, onions, pepper, smoked fish, locust beans, beef, crayfish, salt, seasoning and leaf) from her bowl.
Come with me as I journey through time and tell you the tale of love through the heart and wonders of my mother's finger.
This is the story of love in my mother's kitchen,
where we wait upon her as she works her magic on the washed sinless bean until it loses its skin,
blended to give a rough texture and stirs it till forever until it took the form of a tornado. She then tell a tale of how her mothers’ will wrap it in a leaf to preserve African culture and to give it a different and unique taste, Ekuru is it called.
She then places it in the pot on fire she set to make its accompanying into the afterlife, then proceeds to fry the stew with the oil of the gods till it changes it course and the news of its taste reach out to the neighbouring village, while the elder (crayfish, meat, onions, locustbean, smokedfish and seasoning)takes it turn into the lake of fire set to burn.
We await its readiness and salivate,
until it is served to us under the brightest of the moon with the tale of how one of the gods of the Yorubas picked it as its favourite. Ekuru, this is the meal that brings us together.
