PRODIGALS

It's with a rather pitiful stare that I look upon
the sum of your choices
the exuberance that's blinded your eyes to reason
Your juvenile emotions beclouded by hormones,
the adolescence in your thoughts so your
heart wouldn't listen
The fire that feeds on your passions and urges;
Appetite voracious,
restraint losing all bouts to your splurges

So I behold your ignorance and bemoan the arrogance you show
My compassion yelling her lungs out to
your deafness,
whimpering: “Oh! If only you know..."


(Music interlude...)


I've trod this very path your feet are dying
to explore;
the risk you justify for being adventure
Blindfolds slung across those eyes that have
failed to see
Doomsday undiscerning by the jubilant, sails unfurled by the winds of ecstacy

So you journey into the deep with a mindset
from the shallows
I just pray the mercy of the waves for you,
that you may not
be numbered among the lives it swallows;
That the gullet of the sea may find your flesh
detestable
and spew your drowning body ashore
Death giving you a second chance at life, to many, this grace I can't assure


I'll await you on this sunny side with my heart in my hands
Slurping fluid off its orifices as I bite down for strength
Hopeful for a distant figure as I struggle for breath;
A form arising from the edge of the world,
your gait recognizable even from the farthest of breadth

So fulfilled or devastated I'll receive you upon this hallowed ground like a newborn
Reliving me weeping over your shoulders, wishing that this voyage had never even begun
