THE BATTERED PALM TREE
I am a battered palm tree
The wine tapper treated me thus
Never again to bear the fruits of my species
As though barrenness was my portion
I am annoyed
My mates have produced jars of oil with their succulent ripe fruits
But here I am
Lonely and unproud
He never gives me food
But cuts and sucks all my sap
I am a battered palm tree
It is the wine tapper that treated me thus
He is to blame
His sunken eyes scares me
But will he never drink water?
How I wished he fell down dead
Because I'm angry
All my mates have produced jars of oil with their succulent ripe fruits
But here I am
Lonely and unproud
Whenever he leans on me
High up below my fonds and tastes my sap
I continue to wish I could slap him down
To break his bones and die
Because I'm vexed
My mates have produced jars of oil with their succulent ripe fruits
But here am I
Unproud with the tapper's company
Look at me
And call me the battered palm tree
The wine tapper is the cause
But even so, I cannot deny it
I am a battered palm tree.
