You know, I stumbled into this place almost by accident a couple years back while killing time between meetings in Port Louis. It's tiny, exactly as people say, but what really stuck with me wasn't just the sheer number of shells. It was the sheer range of colors and textures. I had no idea shells could look like that. There are these spiky ones that could double as medieval weapons and others so smooth and glossy you'd think they were polished glass.
What I found most practical is that the owner, an older gentleman who seemed to be the curator, actually knows his stuff. If you go, don't just wander. Ask him to show you the rarest pieces. He pulled out this tiny, almost translucent shell no bigger than my thumbnail and explained it comes from a specific deep trench off the coast of Japan. The whole place felt less like a tourist stop and more like someone's lifelong passion project. It's dusty in parts, and the lighting isn't great, but that adds to the character. Bring a small flashlight for your phone, you'll spot details you'd otherwise miss in the dimmer corners.
If you want a break from the usual market hustle, give yourself thirty minutes here. It's a quiet, weird little pocket of ocean you won't find anywhere else in the city.
