The Yobe State government, led by the executive governor of the state, H.E. Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN, has launched a cooperation program with Switzerland to provide effective ways to protect against floods.
Governor Buni met with the ambassadors of Switzerland on 17th January, 2025, at the Yobe State government house in Damaturu, where they testified that they have developed a plan to cooperate with Yobe State government to prevent floods and reduce the risk of floods across the state.
The delegation led by Deputy Ambassador Mr. Siamak Rouhani confirmed that:
"We have created a good system that will greatly help reduce surface water pollution following the severe challenge that Yobe state faced in 2024 as a result of surface water pollution that worsened." Mr. Siamak said during the visit
The delegation included Ms. Valeria Hutter, an expert in risk reduction and disaster preparedness; Mr. Nicolas Martin-Achard; and key stakeholders, including government officials, technical partners, UN agencies, and non-governmental organisations.
Governor Buni, on behalf of the Yobe state government, thanked them for their efforts in strengthening international cooperation and for giving importance to Yobe state development plans.
"I assure you that Yobe will continue to create a good environment with the aim of building a resilient community and implementing them, and we will continue to consult each other to provide new infrastructure and provide protection to the lives of the community in Yobe state." Governor Buni said
