Yobe State has once again emerged as a beacon of transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s governance landscape, following the release of the Nigerian Local Government Integrity Index (NLGII) report by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI).
The latest data, supported by the infographic findings, shows that while 751 out of 774 local government areas nationwide lag behind in fiscal transparency and accountability, Yobe stands out as one of the few states demonstrating consistent progress in governance reforms and fiscal discipline.
Under the leadership of Governor Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, Yobe’s local councils have maintained functional administrative systems guided by transparency, due process, and public accountability. The state’s proactive measures—such as prompt release of grants, institutional oversight, and public reporting—have strengthened governance at the grassroots and improved citizens’ trust in government institutions.
According to CeFTPI’s assessment, the majority of LGAs in Nigeria fall within “critical” and “very high” corruption risk categories, but Yobe ranks among the few states with moderate-to-low risk, thanks to the governor’s sustained reforms in local administration and fiscal management.
CeFTPI also commended Yobe’s effective use of digital reporting and financial monitoring tools, which have enhanced service delivery and transparency across local governments.
Analysts attribute Yobe’s strong performance to Governor Buni’s Yobe Economic Renewal and Institutional Reform Agenda, which links fiscal integrity with development impact—ensuring that every naira spent translates into tangible benefits for the people.
As many states continue to struggle with governance inefficiencies, Yobe stands tall as a model of integrity-led leadership, proving that with vision, accountability, and transparency, sustainable development at the grassroots is achievable.
“Yobe’s steady rise on the integrity index is not by chance,” CeFTPI stated. “It reflects a government that values openness, fiscal responsibility, and the people it serves.”
