The Yobe State Government has taken a significant step toward strengthening public financial management with the commencement of a high-level capacity-building workshop for local government workers across the state.
The training, organised by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, is focused on reinforcing internal control systems covering revenue generation, expenditure management, and asset accountability in all 17 Local Government Areas.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner, Director of Finance and Supply, Alhaji Musa Isa, stressed that effective internal control remains the foundation of transparency, accountability, and prudent governance.
He noted that the initiative reflects the commitment of the administration of Mai Mala Buni to strengthening institutional frameworks and enhancing efficiency in public service through continuous training and professional development.
According to him, building the capacity of local government officials is essential in ensuring compliance with financial regulations and minimising leakages within the system.
Also speaking, Adamu Jajere urged participants to take full advantage of the training by actively engaging in discussions, sharing experiences, and applying the knowledge gained to improve service delivery at the grassroots level.
The workshop has drawn participation from key stakeholders, including officials of the ministry, the Local Government Audit Department, and the Local Government Pension Board, all working toward a common goal of promoting accountability and strengthening governance structures.
This initiative is part of ongoing reforms by the Buni administration aimed at entrenching transparency, improving financial discipline, and ensuring that public resources are effectively managed for the benefit of the people.
The training is expected to equip participants with practical tools to enhance accountability, reduce financial mismanagement, and support the delivery of quality governance across Yobe State.
