We Were at War Growing up

Many questions arose along the line
That may trouble a child to live a life
Already in tears
not completely a mess
But uncertainties, worries and fears
Rule the heart with cares
Our first fault was we never queried our folks
Cause if we ever did, we got some strokes

Father was stern
Eyes blazing and nostrils smoky
He wasn’t a smoker of anything other than our heart
The sight of him was a red light on our part

Is this not the man whose line we towed?

Mum a mobile amoury
Waiting to discharge its content
A guerrilla of a sort fighting her own battle
As victims on every side
We need not go wrong to be wrong
In the court of both we are always guilty

Of course the training did the grooming
And our compliance still got us groaning
But we had it hot
It began with curiosity, worries and then fears
But ended up getting us into more troubles
Who would have thought that a hare would be afraid to run?
Who would have thought a leopard would be afraid to fight even the gun?
Would we rather speak or forever hold our breath?

The choice still lies in the hands of the people that be.
