The executive chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, has confirmed that they have handed over the agricultural inputs provided by the Yobe State Government to councillors as community representatives from each ward to deliver the support directly to farmers.
The chairman also confirmed that at the local government level, they are continuing to follow the established procedures for the distribution of the empowerment products to safeguard and ensure that they go to the genuine hands of our farmers.
The chairman made the remarks in response to a farmer who alleged that the Yobe State Government is politicizing the agricultural sector during a stakeholders’ meeting in agriculture sponsored by FRILIA at the Town Hall of the Potiskum Local Government Secretariat.
"No one has politicized agriculture in this state; in fact, the Yobe State government under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni FCIA CON COMN has given us full opportunity and support to develop agriculture by providing us with free modern fertilizers and other agricultural inputs.
"As local government leaders, we have followed all the necessary procedures to ensure that the products reach the farmers by handing over the products to the ward councillors to identify the farmers who are eligible to benefit from the program.
"We have also paid close attention to the procedures by which the inputs/supports are distributed to our farmers to fulfill the promise of His Excellency Governor of Yobe State H.E Hon. Mai Mala Buni FCIA CON COMN to ensure that the agricultural inputs are not sold and that a few people have not used the system on behalf of our farmers." Said Hon. Salisu Muktari.
