#poetryWe Are Blacks!
I read you pen me down in your biased book
Murdering my tongue, mockering my black,
I eavesdropped what you have spilled
That my black is a forest of darkness,
Daunting the young, horrifying the old.
Must you rob me of my pride?
I heard you swirled the news all over the Atlantic,
That my skin is scary, and my face is terrific,
It was swept to my ears by the breeze,
That you painted my land "a white man's grave".
Must you rob me of my pride?
When I thumped on the ground, twerking my
waist to the rhythms of the drums,
You said it was "an unrewarding gyration of barbarious tribe"
Yet, you nodded your heads to their chants.
Must you rob me of my pride?
We are blacks, blacks are we!
Veiled by its beauty, skinned by its pride!
Our blacks glitter like moon, tormenting the dark!
My skin is my pride, do not mud it!
My pride is my skin, do not deprive me of it!
