WATIN MAN GO DO?
(By Fso.)
Off to the field we go,
In search of our daily garri (bread).
With rumbling stomach,
Empty full of nothing but air,
Stomach rumbling like the angry thunder,
In a heavy down pour.
Then the sun goes home,
And we set our foot trekking back home,
At times on our rickety bicycle,
Hoping to be comforted at home,
By the old rusty fan hanging lifelessly from the ceiling.
The old leaking shanty ceiling,
Too bad even the rusty fan won't even work,
For no electricity to power it around.
Frustrated and angry,
Under the big old dongoyaro tree,
We sat, eating out roasted coco yam in silence,
Silence like that of the grave yard,
But for the twitting of the birds,
And the buzzing of insects around.
Lying on an old tattered straw mat, deep in thoughts.
And with a deep sigh of relief,
Hmmmm, "watin man go do"?
( What can I do?)
Man no fit kill himself oooo.
( I can't kill my self).
