Hello Neigbours,

If you were to tour around Nigeria, there's just no way you won't be tempted to visit the vibrant city of Lagos. Originally, the word Lagos means, "Lakes" and was given by Portuguese.

Interestingly, Lagos is the most populous city in Nigeria and the second fastest-growing city in Africa and the seventh in the world with a growing population of about 21 million.


Lagos is a port which originated on islands separated by creeks, such as Lagos Island, fringing the southwest mouth of Lagos Lagoon while protected from the Atlantic Ocean by barrier islands and long sand spits such as Bar Beach, which stretch up to 100 kilometres (62 miles) east and west of the mouth.

Overtime, Lagos has expanded and more local councils have recently been created, bringing the total number of local governments in Lagos to 57.

Lagos was the capital of Nigeria from 1914 up to 1991. The city was stripped of its status when the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was established at city of Abuja.
