Vanguard Confers Good Governance Award on Gov. Buni as Yobe’s Transformation Earns National Recognition

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has been honored with the Good Governance Award 2025 by Vanguard Newspaper, in recognition of his administration’s sustained efforts in rebuilding institutions, restoring security, and driving inclusive development across the state.
The award, announced in Vanguard’s Monday, March 2, 2026 edition, underscores what the newspaper described as measurable progress recorded under Gov. Buni’s leadership since assuming office.
According to Vanguard, his governance approach has combined reconstruction with fiscal discipline and long-term planning, repositioning Yobe State on a steady path of recovery after years of insurgency and infrastructural setbacks.
One of the most visible outcomes highlighted by the paper is the extensive urban renewal program across Damaturu and other major towns. Strategic road construction and rehabilitation projects have improved mobility and boosted commercial activities, while street lighting and drainage interventions have enhanced security and reduced seasonal flooding.
These developments, Vanguard noted, have significantly improved living conditions and renewed public confidence in governance.
Beyond urban centers, the administration’s rural development drive has expanded access to roads, potable water, and electricity, directly supporting agriculture, small businesses, and grassroots economic growth. Investments in education and healthcare—through the construction and rehabilitation of schools and health facilities—were also cited as evidence of a people-oriented policy direction.
Vanguard further commended the government’s focus on security and peacebuilding, including the resettlement of displaced persons and collaboration with security agencies and community leaders. Despite nationwide economic challenges, the consistent payment of salaries and pensions was described as a mark of fiscal responsibility.
The Good Governance Award 2025, the newspaper concluded, reflects Gov. Buni’s commitment to accountable leadership and sustainable development, positioning Yobe as a model of recovery-driven governance in Nigeria.
