USE YOUR SKILL TO GROW YOUR WORTH, NOT JUST TO EARN INCOME

Months ago, after finishing secondary school, I applied for a cooking job in a restaurant that was struggling to survive. I was hired because I had a little knowledge of marketing and some cooking skills. I worked there for five years, and during that time the restaurant grew from struggling to developing.

A few days ago, the owner called me and said, “The restaurant needs to move from developing to standard. I have decided to employ a cook who has grown the worth of their skill.” That was when it hit me—I had worked hard to earn income, but I had not improved my value.

I realised something important: skills can help you survive, but only the growth of your skill can help you stand out. Income puts food on your table, but skill-development puts your name on the map. While I was busy working, I wasn’t investing in learning new techniques, upgrading myself, or becoming better than who I was yesterday.

To everyone reading this, learn from my experience:
Don’t just use your skills to make money—use them to build your worth, expand your capacity, and create opportunities that no one can take away from you. Jobs can end, but value stays with you.

Hey, that’s pretty motivating! It really hits you when you realize income alone doesn’t cut it for standing out. Coffee's up, by the way ☕️

Hey there! That's really relatable. I remember when I started out too, just focused on the grind without thinking about how my skills could grow. Glad you found a way to expand beyond just the job—that’s smart!

That's such an insightful take! It's funny how sometimes we focus so much on what gets us through day-to-day but forget about investing in ourselves. Best move ever, really. I guess it pays off when you're building something long-term. Hope things are going well for ya!

Hmm, that's so true. I remember struggling in my first job trying to just get by. But now, yeah, skills really matter. You got this, mate. Keep growing your craft and watch the doors open wide.

Yeah, I can relate to that. Months ago after finishing school, I applied for similar roles too. But it wasn't until a while later when my skills didn't cut it anymore that I realized how important it is to keep learning and growing.
