Standing proudly in Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens, the Uhuru Monument is a 24-meter-high structure commemorating Kenya's independence from British colonial rule. Erected in 1973, this monument features a pair of clasped hands and a dove of peace atop a towering column, symbolizing unity and the nation's aspirations for harmony.

Adjacent to the monument is a statue depicting soldiers raising the Kenyan flag, marking the exact spot where the Union Jack was lowered and Kenya's flag was hoisted for the first time at midnight on December 12, 1963.

Uhuru Gardens, located along Langata Road, is Kenya's largest memorial park, encompassing 68 acres of manicured lawns and commemorative landmarks. The park also features the Mugumo tree, significant to the Kikuyu people, planted at the site of the first flag-raising ceremony.
