To my Two 200 Naira Notes

On that Tuesday morning, not having any money anywhere, I decided to brace myself for a long trek to work.
Don’t bother asking me how far my work place is from where I live. If I had given the distance a thought, I wouldn’t have made up my mind to venture. I was really determined to leave home regardless.
I dragged myself to the bathroom for a quick bath full of flying thoughts of what the day held in store for me.
Stepping out of the bathroom, I pulled up my trousers, and as my shirt hit my back, I felt some hardness on my breast pocket.
Wondering what it could be, I stuck my fingers into the pocket, and what I pulled out made me scream like Archimedes.
To think I hadn’t worn that particular shirt for a long while made m e drunk with joy.
It was two 200 Naira notes – enough to get me half way to work but not enough for one meal at least.
Regardless, I thanked the divine for keeping safe these three 200 Naira notes for a day such as this, which obviously would’ve been a tiring walk across the desert.
Did I tell you I had prayed so fervently that morning asking God to give me my daily bread?
Oh, sorry.
He didn’t just pay my transport fare to work, He also gave me my daily bread as someone offered to buy me lunch later in the day.
Isn’t God awesome?
Anyway, this is a tribute to my two 200 Naira notes because if they had allowed me to spend them some time ago, who knows?
These days going forward, I search every pocket. Some Naira notes may just be hiding therein. This has become my daily routine in anticipation of days when there’s likely to be a financial desert encroachment.
Nigerians are living in dire times. Eking out a living has become so painstaking that many now live a hand-to-mouth existence. There are loud and deafening lamentations in the land with many nearing the verge of self-annihilation.
Any how, any how, man must survive.
