Nelly Uzonna Edith Uchendu, MON (1950 – 12 April 2005), was a renowned Nigerian singer, composer, and actress known for modernizing traditional Igbo folk music. Born in Umuchu, Anambra State, Nigeria, in 1950, she began singing at an early age and joined Professor Sonny Oti's music group. In 1976, she gained prominence with the release of her song "Love Nwantinti," earning her the title "Lady with the Golden Voice." Throughout her career, which spanned from 1973 to 2005, Uchendu released six LP recordings, showcasing her versatility in genres like Igbo highlife, pop, and gospel music.
