THE WORM
THE WORM
Once upon a worm,
Which was birthed in the heart of a man,
Nutured by blind lust,
The man for greedy pleasures ran,
The more his desire for selfishness grew,
The worm ate out his heart, while the man mourned,
The man was devoured into nothing by the worm he fed with his own greed.
The worm set out on it's eventful journey,
Living in the heart of men; feeding on their guilt,
The men coveted riches and blood,
All at the expense of of satisfying the worm,
Each day men died, suffering from their fellow men,
Women and children cried for the plagues of the men whom the worm ate at their heart,
Humanity killed itself and rights were taken from people,
Suffering amassed among plain men, while the worm ridden beings mounted riches unjustly and by the tears, blood and sweat of other men,
Alas the men died reduced to bits by the worm that had grown bigger with more appetite,
Still the poor men cried with no one to save them from themselves.
The worm's appetite grew and it longed for the hearts of powerful men,
Men in high places, men of power, men who hold positions and men of valor,
All of these men were slaved to the worm who dwelt in their hearts,
The men afflicted great suffering on those they ruled and controlled,
The poor men had nothing to show and cries were ignored by powerful men,
Bloods were shed all in a bid to satisfy the worm; the led led cried and cried,
But more pains and suffering were afflicted on them,
Powerful entities died and wars ravaged, diseases spread and blood shed,
All to no satisfaction of the worm.
Finally the worm grew tired of mortal blood,
It dived into system and organisations set by both plain men and men of valor,
The cankerworm ate deep into systems and gained power and size,
Men died and pains grew, suffering and evil vices raged among men,
Humanity seemed to be left with no saviour as the worm ate into most hearts and devoured systems and organisations among men.
O! Humanity, who is to save you from this cankerworm.
This poem highlights how greed and corruption is Nutured in the hearts of men and how it later comes to destroy them.
