...and that was how this old woman died without getting full access to what was written in the will.
Fedora was an adopted child of a man called Alfred whose wife died without actually giving birth to a child for him. Alfred stayed true all along and went ahead to adopt beautiful Fedora and took her as his own. Alfred was a very rich man, rich in all wise and never lacked anything, hence, Fedora also never lacked anything.
Alfred took Fedora up, loved her so dearly he was for her as a father and also a mother. As long as Alfred lived, Fedora was happy and lived buoyantly. She was at school (a tertiary institution) when a call that changed her life forever came in.
Fedora’s world came crumbling when she heard that her dad; Alfred was dead. Alfred had been sick for a while and no one dared to tell Fedora because they knew how much she loved him.
Before Alfred died, he called his lawyer and willed all his properties to Fedora. He left the letter with the Lawyer that when Fedora has come of age, he should hand it over to her.
Fedora came of age and she was given the envelope that has the will in it. She knew Alfred was rich and had almost every in control but Fedora lived the most wretched life though the will was with her. She had no understanding of the will. She knew it as just an envelope and never opened it. Instead, she kept it as a souvenir gotten from her late dad. Fedora kept living from hand to mouth, she lived so poor that even the poor called her poor. Everything she needed to get the best out of life was embedded in that will but she never knew and hence her struggle in life. It is correct that her name was in the will with all benefits allocated but because of her ignorance those benefits were far from her. Fedora struggled and became unrecognizable due to so much sufferings.
She became old and sick then because of lack of money, she was transferred to a general hospital that takes care of old patients without money. It was in the hospital that she saw the lawyer and recognized him. He was so shocked to see her in that state because he knew she had so much with her.
He went to her and began to discuss with her and figured out that she had the will with her but never knew the will. He explained everything to her on that bed and her heart shattered having discovered that she had opportunity and access to so much but ignorance rubbed her of it. She never had the chance to apply for the benefit in writing to become a reality. She gave up the ghost few moments later without having access to what was written.
Dear Christians, a will is not accessible and potent when the writer of the will is still much alive. A will becomes potent when the writer of the will is dead. Now, Christ came and wrote a will for us which captures all the benefits we have in Christ as an adopted son/daughter. We might keep struggling like Fedora if we have the will in our hands but don’t know what is in it and also, we will keep struggling if we have the will, know what is in it but do not go to the appropriate court to place demand for it.
There is so much that Christ’s death wrought for us, so much that you may not know until you decide to open the will. The will written to us by Christ is the Word. Do you have the will? If yes, do you know the will? If yes, have you started placing a demand for them? The fact that you have the will and know it doesn’t automatically mean it will come to you. Start placing demands for them! They are yours. Don’t let the enemy cheat you by your ignorance.
The will is the word. Have it, Know it, and Place a demand!
