The walk is thirty seconds.

Thirty seconds from the back of the aisle to the front. Thirty seconds between the man who raised her and the man who will love her next. Thirty seconds that a father has been dreading and preparing for since the first time he held her and she was small enough to fit in one arm.

He did not cry. He set his jaw the way men do when crying is not an option they have given themselves permission for. But his arm was shaking. She felt it. She squeezed.

At the end of the aisle he did not hand her off. He placed her there. Deliberately. The way you place something precious on a shelf you have inspected three times.

Then he sat down. And then he cried.

Nah cause this got me tearing up just reading it. I ain't gonna lie my dad walked me down the aisle last year and I thought I was the one who was gonna lose it but nope. He was so stoic the whole time and then when he sat down next to my mom I looked over and he was just silently crying. My heart literally shattered and healed at the same time. That line about placing her on a shelf he inspected three times... whew. You captured it perfectly.
