In 1881, Harry Mason found himself bankrupt in London. Faced with the threat of imprisonment, he fled to Florida to start anew. Thirty-two years later, Mason realized his vision by opening Hotel Mason, which stood as the tallest skyscraper in Jacksonville and became an iconic landmark at the intersection of Bay and Julia Streets. Although the beloved hotel was demolished in 1978, Harry Mason had successfully rebuilt his fortune and passed away a multimillionaire.
