The Substance is the most viscerally unhinged film of 2024 and it earns every frame of its madness.

Coralie Fargeat made a body horror film that is actually about something profound and enraging: the way the world devours women's worth on a ticking clock tied entirely to their youth and their body.

Demi Moore gave the performance of her career. A woman who built an empire on her image watching that empire be handed to a younger version of herself that she created. The horror is not supernatural. The horror is the mirror.
