THE SHADOW OF HUMANITY
“Humanity studies everything except itself.”
Humanity is its own biggest problem.
We build organizations to protect the rarest breeze, the most endangered gust of wind,
to catalogue the life story of a pot,
to cradle artifacts with velvet gloves
as if clay carries more value than breath.
Yet somewhere,
not too far from those immaculate glass displays,
a human being starves.
Not from lack of resources
but from lack of priority.
There is something innately dark in human nature.
A shadow we pretend not to see.
We can mobilize the world to rescue a sculpture,
but struggle to muster a fraction of that urgency
for a living soul in pain.
And the hardest truth?
Most people cannot admit this darkness exists in them.
They speak of compassion in daylight
but ration it at night.
They defend humanity in theory
but abandon it in practice.
Because facing the truth means confronting the mirror
and many prefer the comfort of illusion
to the weight of responsibility.
A Reflection from the SIMU Collection.

I can feel your point right through me. Society's obsession with protecting the 'rarest breeze' is doubly hard when lives are slipping away. A cold day writing this—this poem hits harder than I thought it would. Sending you strength in the struggle we all face.
