THE SEED WITHIN
by SIMU
A Reflection from the SIMU Collection.
---
Pineapples cannot suddenly appear
in a fruit salad made of bananas, apples,
watermelons, and grapes.
Nothing materializes from nowhere.
Every taste comes from a seed.
Every presence has a root.
So why do we act surprised
when evil shows up among us,
as though it leapt from some dark,
mystical void beyond human reach?
Why do we blame shadows, curses,
spirits, destinies,
everything except the mirror?
Maybe, just maybe,
evil does not visit us —
maybe it lives in us.
Not as a dominating force,
but as a quiet potential
woven into the very fabric of being human.
We come into the world
with the full spectrum of possibility —
compassion, cruelty, kindness, violence,
creation, destruction —
all seeds in the same soil.
What grows depends on the choices we water,
the emotions we nurture,
the wounds we refuse to address.
But it is easier to blame demons
than to acknowledge the shadows
cast by our own hearts.
Easier to scream at external forces
than to admit that the darkest places
are sometimes the corners of our minds
we avoid sweeping for fear of what we might find.
Evil is not a foreign object
smuggled into the fruit bowl of humanity.
It is a seed in the soil,
one we pretend we didn’t plant,
one we pretend we didn’t recognize.
But potential alone does not define destiny —
the fruit we bear
comes from the habits we cultivate
and the truths we dare to confront.
Acknowledging that evil may be intrinsic
is not an admission of hopelessness.
It is a declaration of responsibility.
Because what comes from within
can be changed from within.
What grows in the human garden
can be uprooted, shaped, transformed.
Evil is not magic.
It is not mystery.
It is possibility —
born in us,
controlled by us,
defeated only when we accept
that the seed was always ours.
