The Scavenger

Man has been a scavenger upon nature's bounties from time immemorial,
In his hungred state satiating his burning desire and endless craving for more
of every thing that life offers in the briefness of our miseries or
the longevity of eternity.
Nature in its greed has clutched upon mans soul like a foul stench
defying the aura and scents of a potent deodorant, and man,
man squirms and squirts like a worm caught secured on a hook:
in the days of which I now tell you,
days of which western civilization dawned on us in dazzling chaos of anonymity and animosities
and the villages littered along the West coast of Africa
staggered between the consoling and comforting embraces
of traditions and modernity;
we the poor little ants took the bruises of the parle
in bewildered confusion
throwing our weights wherever the balance of power tilted to,
thus becoming westernized Africans
and the mongrel locked in the labyrinths of confusions.
If you carefully consider the faces we stare,
thereon printed out on the sand of time
are the feet of ancestors strewn around and about the ancient paths
eons ago before the first White man
on lost course did set sail upon
the soon to be troubled waters of Africa
then in Concord with our rafters...
Yes it was then when the tides were on the rise,
when wealth by fraud and swindling
smote dignity with a scarb
and held onto honour cladded with the soiled regalia and garb of royalty.
This was but an eye sore
friendly to the eyes
for worser foes did befriend our lands end and souls
and our being spinned on broken wheels
the high hills of morality down the ditches of uncultured brutes
donning the hat of civility.
Deprived of our moral antennas and taste buds for sanity,
our lands delved into discuss with the hordes of hell's kitchen,
customs changed like night and day
and our traditions put on new polity alien to the inclinations of our ancestry.
But this was just the beginning of a new era of confusion
of the which we now live uncensored and scavenge its dunghills
for our miserable survival
and the rise of our ignominious age,
the scavengers...

Man's been scavenging nature ever since time began. It's like we're all stuck in this cycle of grabbing what we can while it's still around. The poem really hits hard with the struggle to hold onto traditions and dignity amidst the chaos. It's a bittersweet reminder of how much we've lost and what's left to lose.
