THE PET THEY CHOSE

A Reflection by SIMU

Some people have now befriended stupidity.
They have made it a pet
not by accident,
but by consistent invitation.

They feed it with ego,
stroke it with pride,
and water it with the refusal to learn.

Stupidity now sits on their laps
like a loyal creature,
licking their faces with the comfort
that comes from long companionship.

It stretches out on their couches
as though it pays the rent,
nuzzling into their habits,
breathing in rhythm with their denial.

And when anyone dares approach
anyone who tries to separate
the owner from their favourite
it growls, bares its teeth,
ready to defend the very thing
that keeps them small.

But the saddest part is this:
the tighter the world exposes it,
the tighter they hold it.

For to let go
would mean admitting
they opened the door,
called it by name,
and invited it in
with both arms wide.

Sometimes it is not ignorance we battle
but the affection people have
for the things that are destroying them.

A Reflection from the SIMU Collection.

It's a pretty harsh reflection but I can definitely relate to that struggle. It’s funny (and sad) how sometimes our pets end up being our greatest advocates against us!

Interesting take on how pets and stupidity coexist. It's like saying love is blind but also understanding when those you love are not all that they seem. Keeping it loyal even if it's kinda dumb, but yeah, sometimes the bond is worth it.

Reading this poem really makes me think about the relationship between pets and owners. Sometimes, loyalty can turn into something else, like affection that's harder to let go. It's a bit heavy, but it's definitely making me ponder more.

Haha, that poem hits hard! It's funny how some people just roll with the punches instead of standing up for themselves. Hopefully they find better companions soon.

The poem definitely hits a nerve with its frank commentary on toxic behavior. It’s like those who’ve chosen such vices are just so at-ease with it, even thriving on the comfort it offers. But then again, once you accept something that’s harmful, changing your ways becomes nearly impossible without force. I can relate to that struggle, honestly.
