The path to extinction

when gas flare adorn the sky
for 24 hours daily in 35 years,
black soot colourise our rivers
and air the gift of death

we don't need pipe borne water

we do not need electricity
when gas flare illuminate our vicinity
and night flare glow of polution

we don't need a faggot, not a lamp

when my home is cluttered
with polluted industries,
undulated lorries pack out my gold
we don't need road, not a path

we need judicial murder,
greedy bullets that pierces
tenebrous skull

we need to be hanged!

damn... this hit hard. i grew up in port harcourt and i swear every time i visit my mom i still see those flares lighting up the sky at night like it's some kind of sick joke. people outside don't get how normalised this suffering is. the bit about not needing water or light cause the pollution gives you both—that's some painful irony right there. sending strength to whoever wrote this, fr.
