The mother of the bride fixed the train one last time and then could not let go.
Her daughter turned around to ask if everything was straight and found her mother holding the hem of the dress with both hands and both eyes closed.
Not praying exactly. Not crying exactly. Something between the two that mothers invent in the moments when their children are about to belong to someone else.
The daughter knelt down - in her wedding dress, on the floor of the dressing room, without caring about the fabric - and put her arms around her mother.
They stayed like that for two minutes.
I took one photo. Quietly. From the doorway. I almost did not take it because some moments feel too sacred for a shutter.
But this is why they hired me. Not for the posed shots. For this. The moment before the moment. The goodbye disguised as a dress fitting.
