Through the cradle of time, where the sun first gleamed,
The first Black man walked, as the ancients dreamed.
From Africa’s heart, where the rivers entwine,
The dawn of humanity, a story divine.
Homo sapiens rose, in the dust of the past,
With knowledge and spirit, their shadows were cast.
Through valleys and mountains, they journeyed with grace,
The seed of all nations, the roots of our race.
In Egypt’s embrace, where the pyramids tower,
Pharaohs ruled boldly, in their finest hour.
Nefertiti, a vision, and Ramses, a king,
Their legacy whispers in the songs that we sing.
Across Nubia's sands, where the Kushites stood tall,
Empires of strength, built to withstand all.
With bronze and with skill, they carved out their name,
In the annals of history, they ignited the flame.
Then came Mansa Musa, with riches untold,
A journey to Mecca, his story unfolds.
His gold was a river, his spirit so free,
A beacon of culture, for the world to see.
Estebanico ventured, a path yet unknown,
In lands full of wonders, he boldly had grown.
With courage and wisdom, he bridged the divide,
A testament to resilience, with honor and pride.
From Douglass to Du Bois, the voices resound,
In the fight for the just, their legacies found.
With pen as their weapon, they shattered the chains,
Their words, like a tempest, ignited the plains.
So let us remember, as we walk in their stride,
The first Black man’s journey, with dignity and pride.
For in every heartbeat, their spirit endures,
In the legacy of firsts, our strength reassures.
