Here I am,
Upon the surface of the deep, drowning under the waves.
Washed ashore, my deeds lay bare.
The dark holds me no more,
my darkness cannot keep the beast within.
tmThis dilemma expands, tearing through my thoughts.
Hands stretched from the drowning waters,
closing the gap between the good and me.

Between the good and me,
Lord, bless my soul.
Away from the living and the dead,
fleeing the surface of the earth,
I sought peace.
For comfort I roamed, my solitude amiss.
Brought down to my knees, my chains scratched the earth.
These people, minds of black and white,
unrepentant, hearts of good and bad.
To the sons of the soil, hearts hardened.
Dear God, keep the space between the good and me.
